Frequently Asked Questions:
How do I ask a grieving family for clothing?
Bittersweet Bears realizes the sensitivity in asking families for clothing. To address this concern, we offer a gift certificate which includes postage and handling that can be given directly to the recipient. The certificate will be valid for one year. However, the recipient will be contacted prior to the expiration date and clothing will be requested or an extension will be offered.
How much fabric do I need?
It takes approximately 1 large shirt to make a 22" bear. However, you can send several articles of clothing which we can configure to make your custom bear.
What if I don?t have enough fabric/clothing?
Bittersweet Bears will use your fabric and match it with a comparable fabric color and weight. Please note: There will be an additional charge for this service.
Does Bittersweet Bears wash the garment before it is sewn?
No, Families are responsible for supplying Bittersweet Bears garments in clean condition.
Is the excess fabric returned to the recipient?
Only if requested.
What kinds of garments do I need to provide for a Bittersweet Bear?
Flannel, cotton, fleece, tweeds, and wools are just a few examples of excellent fabric types that can be used to create a bear.
What garments do you recommend that I not use?
Sweater knits do not work well because of their tendency to ravel. Bittersweet Bears will not accept undergarments of any kind.
Can I request special features on the bear?
Yes. Depending on the garmet used, the bears take on very unique and individual qualities. We will work with the family to create specific design features and all of our bears are monogrammed with the deceased's initials and life years on the sole of the bear's foot.
When will I receive my Bittersweet Bear?
In approximately 6-8 weeks.
How can I pay for my purchase?
We accept personal checks, cashier's check and travelers checks at the time your order is placed.
